Duties of the Area Directors


  1. Serve as the area director position for two years. (The rotation schedule is listed in the by-laws)
  2. Attend summer and fall Professional Development Conference. Board meetings will immediately precede both conferences.
  3. Attend spring THOA, Inc. Executive board meetings (held in or near city where the next summer Professional Development Conference will usually be held on a Friday and Saturday)
  4. Attend the Area meeting at the summer Professional Development Conference (PDC)and complete the following:
    • Assign THOA, Inc. members conference duties
    • Obtain area nominations for:
      1. Vocational Teacher of the Year and
      2. Outstanding New Vocational Teacher.
    • Announce nomination information for:
      1. Outstanding Service Award
      2. Outstanding Vocational Educator (Guidelines in policy & procedure manual)
    • Conduct interviews for outstanding teachers. Announce time and place interviews will be held. Hand out application form. Nominees must be able to complete a notebook (Guidelines will be provided) and attend the Region IV ACTE conference (THOA sponsors part of the trip)
    • Promote THOA membership
    • Encourage THOA members to run for an executive office: Vice-President, secretary, treasurer-elect, reporter, area director
  5. Elect Area director for THOA executive board
  6. Report to the vice-president of necessity of absence and send board report to the vice-president.
  7. Report on the area progress at the THOA, Inc. Executive Board meetings.
  8. Serve as a committee chair or be a committee member for the budget committee.
  9. Prepare the teacher registration packets at the board meeting before the PDC begins.
  10. Pass the notebook to the next area director and the outgoing director will explain the duties to the incoming director.


Area Directors Responsibilities
For
New Teacher/Mentor Program


  1. At the area meetings during the summer Professional Development Conference, Area Directors will obtain a list of new teachers and teachers volunteering to be mentors. The New Teacher/Mentor Coordinator will distribute the forms to the area directors during the THOA board meeting at the beginning of the conference. The forms will be filled out during the area meeting and returned to the NT/M Coordinator before the end of the conference.
  2. The Area Directors will assign mentors to the new teachers and compile the list on the form provided to them at the THOA board meeting by the NT/M Coordinator. The form will be returned to the NT/M Coordinator before the end of the conference.
  3. The Area Director will be responsible for getting the name and contact information of the new teacher and the mentor to each of them before August 1, 2003.
  4. The Area Director will provide the mentor with a Mentor Report Form for the mentor to document contact with the new teacher throughout the year. The form will be provided at the THOA board meeting.
  5. Mentors are encouraged to contact their new teacher on a monthly basis.
  6. The Area Director will receive a New Teacher/Mentor report form to document their contact with the new teachers and mentors in their area. The form will be provided at the THOA board meeting.
  7. September 5, 2003, Area Directors will contacts mentors and new teachers and document on the report form.
  8. October 1, 2003, Area Directors will contact mentors and new teachers to encourage them to attend the Fall Professional Development Conference. Contact will be documented on report form.
  9. Area directors will meet with the new teachers and mentors in their area during the NTM Fall Conference.
  10. January 15, 2004, Area Directors will contact mentors and new teachers and record on report form.
  11. March 24, 2004, Area Directors will contact mentors and new teachers and record on report form.
  12. May 7, 2004, Area Directors will contact mentors and new teachers and record on report form.
  13. Reports will be made to the THOA Board of Directors at the Summer PDC conference.

*Board members are required to attend all board meetings unless there are extenuating circumstances which will be reviewed by the board. Board members should make arrangements for their duties to be carried forward. Notify the President if unable to attend a board meeting as soon as possible.*
